For the last few months i’ve been playing Urban Dead. It’s a post-apocalyptic Mass Online Web-Based Multi-Player Zombie Game, where it’s a constant struggle between the living and the dead. My friend, who’s currently unemployed asked me for pokemon roms and emulators to pass the time. So then i realized, with such a huge pokemon franchise, they are bound to have some sort of free online experience. I stumbled upon Pokemon World Online.

For this game you need to download a client and updates to play. The game is java coded, and is in it’s Beta stage of development. Allot of bugs, and glitches which the developers are constantly trying to fix and update. Right now the game does not support EV (Effort Value) training. It also doesn’t have pokemon above #375. The 4th generation pokemon aren’t currently supported.

I’ve spent literally 3 days of my life, i was absent from my blog and other activities because i was just so addicted to this online game. What makes games better is the online experience, the ability to interact with humans and the social web just for some reason is so addicting. When i started playing they had this PvP (Player versus Player) feature. So you would execute this command /battle “Player Name”. And you can battle other players that are online. Some players can actually see other players in game, unfortunate for me i can’t. I followed a guide to open ports 800-801 TCP & UDP. Apparently in a newer build of the PWO Client, they will fix this issue. For me the ability to see other players ingame will be bloody epic.

I started the game with a Charmander, every pokemon game i’ve played in the past i’ve always started with the Fire pokemon. PWO has really opened my eyes to pokemon, for me i always had an arsenal of my starter + legendaries + cool looking pokemon. I never looked into statistics and training. With PWO i actually looked into stats, and which pokemon is actually the best of the best in the game. The existence of IV (Independant Valuable), literally blew me away. Which means that a Lv. 100 Mewtwo which does Psychic can do more damage than another Lv. 100 Mewtwo. One of their Attack IV will be higher, and in pokemon the maximum is 31. So if you have a pokemon that has 31, it’s the best of the best. So each pokemon is unique and different some, miles better than others. The integration of Shiny pokemon has made the games unbalanced. Because Shiny pokemon have IV stats that are beyond 31, and they have better stats than their normal counter parts.

I started with an account and decided to catch a Caterpie and then i decided to level it up to a Butterfree to learn some grass attacks. I wanted to learn grass attacks because they do increased damage against Brock’s pokemon. I was able to level my Caterpie until a Metapod. And then there was an awful glitch in the game, which replaced my Charmeleon (starter pokemon) with a Lv. 5 Caterpie. The problem is, you need to have the pokemon’s number to have it replaced. I only had about 3 hours into the game anyways, so i decided to start all over again. With the new account i haven’t had the pokemon swapping issue. But i have logged all of my important pokemon’s #s. Just incase they get swapped. I’ve been playing the game for the last 72 hours, and only last night did a Moderator come online and ask, “if anyone needs any assistance please message”. That would have been the best time for me to get my pokes switched, or if i’m stuck in a tree to get moved. There isn’t allot of moderation in the game, there are very few Game Moderators. I’ve never met one, only one in training. The community is strong and mature, and very helpful. Although some may have a half baked understanding of certain things, others know their stuff.

I decided to invest having a premium membership account with PWO. It’s just some problem with me, i fork over money: Urban Dead, Combat Arms & this blog. So this premium account gives me more EXP, money and it increases my chances of catching a Shiny Pokemon. The odds for catching a Shiny pokemon is 1-in-3030 according to a GM in training. The odds of catching a Horribly Rare pokemon is 1-in-1024. A Horribly rare pokemon is the rarest, some people have spent weeks and even months camping out at certain areas to try and catch elusive pokemon like Pikachu and Dratini. This game is unbalanced and favors those with money, so if you have membership ($5/month) you can pay an additional $7/per pokemon. The rules are, no legendaries, lowest evolution and no pokemon above 375. This introduces the Uncatchable category. Because people can purchase pokemon with real money, they can bring unbalanced pokemon into the game. To name a few: Salamence, Metagross, Tyranitar and the list goes on. Even pokemon like Dratini are near impossible to catch. The game changing pokemon can only be obtained through purchase. I initially wanted 6 Flying/Dragon pokemon combined with different attributes. So i blindly paid for Aerodactyl. Right now he’s leveled up, but he isn’t one of the stronger pokemon in the game. I then bought Dratini, and it’s been wonders, i literally walked right over 6 gyms just using normal attacks. After getting all the badges i decided to get Salamence. So i bought Bagon, for some random reason i got two of them. One has better IV stats than the other, so i’m currently training that one. I’m thinking of giving away the 2nd Lv. 5 Bagon to maybe a friend. So if your reading this blog, don’t hesitate to reply, i’ll definitely give you the Bagon if your interested.

That’s about it really. This game can actually be completed in no more than 6-12 hours, if you really going at it. For me the bombshell was that my client crashed while battling Brock. So that meant i have to wait 48 hours to battle him again. During these 48 hours i trained Dratini, Aerodactyl & Charmeloen till Lv. 30 battling Lv. 5-8 pokemon. I’m just a freak when it comes to training, anyways i was stuck in Secret Area 1 for 48 hours, it drove me insane. But i got through it, and the training there just made me fly through the game.

My thoughts, it’s limited, very glitchy and unbalanced. Right now we only have the Kanto map, and the introduction of Johto and even the Pokemon League will be interesting. Allot of players are already maxed out, so there going to just step over the rest of the map. What’s important is for the developers to fix bugs like the poke-swapping. I think what causes that bug is basically it switches the strongest pokemon with the lowest evolution of the most recent pokemon you caught. I’ve read the thread which has over 170 pages of complaints and requests and it all seems to occur with the 2nd NPC (Non-Player Character) at Brock’s Gym. The Developer said they haven’t isolated the problem, but they are trying some new things.

At their pokemon wiki there is a poll as to what they should do for the next update: Bug Fixes, New Locations, Johto Gyms, Fix bugged attacks, TMs/HMs, Avatar appearances, More quests. To be hones the most important update should be bug fixes. The current quest they have: Water Lab #2 doesn’t actually work, because you can’t get to the 2nd level of the water lab. For me i really want to see TMs/HMs in action. What makes pokemon strong are their attacks, and some pokemon are better with learned attacks rather than natural ones.

Anyways without any further-ado i’ll make this post. It will be followed by some backlog: American Idol, Lost, Prison Break posts. I really need to push those, American Idol will be a bit delayed depending on how big the Daughtry performance is, i’ll have to decide whether to give it to you guys in 2 parts, we’ll see. Lost is going to important to post because the season finale is this Wednesday. Prison Break is actually getting interesting, so before i forget some stuff i’ll get to work on that.
