State of Play

State of Play

Overrated and overhyped film. The Russel Crowe trademark is dead, his espionage films like State of Play & Body of Lies are long and boring. The story wasn’t riveting or anything it was just confusing, they show things so quickly it’s hard to connect the dots. You start hearing names, and all of the sudden your lost. After watching the film the only name i remember is Steve Wilson played by Ben Affleck. Forgettable film, they went absolutely no where. I mean it wasn’t as scandalous, it’s the life of a reporter but this one had a pretty boring story. I don’t know why he does it. But Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood looks like it’s going to be amazing. So we might be seeing some exciting Russel Crowe films in the near future. Until then stay away from State of Play, you’ll be in for a 2 hour snooze fest.

District 9

The film lived upto it’s expectations, new concepts, and a riveting story to keep you going. What makes this film so much better than the previous sci-fi films this year is that it had heart. A timeless classic if i don’t say so myself. A story about a man who wants to make a difference for the aliens a.k.a. prawns. And ends up becoming one of them, and in his fight to reverse the infection he is targeted by both the locals and the government who want to use his mutation. These aliens landed on top of Johannesburg 20 years ago and they’ve brought alien weapons and technology. Unfortunately the weapons can only be used by the prawns, because it’s integrated into their DNA. If a human tries to use the trigger it fails, and does absolutely nothing. Reverse Engineering and other efforts to use their technology have failed. (more…)

Howl’s Moving Castle

Howl’s Moving Castle

After looking up Christian Bale’s IMDB i came by Howl’s Moving Castle, it only had Japanese audio until i found the English dub which Bale did the voice-over for. It’s an anime film with an interesting love story. Allot of plot holes, and it felt like the film should of had a more descriptive prequel to it. The story wasn’t very impressive. I don’t watch allot of anime films but this wasn’t any good.

The story is about a young a girl Sophie who gets cursed by a witch. The curse makes her become older and elderly. She sets off to find the Witch but ends up @ Howl’s castle where she becomes a care taker. It’s very slow and drawing; very little momentum in this story. Little to no surprises; and the war was honestly pointless. Even the characters in the film admit it; but the fact that it took up almost 60% of the screen time was unbearable. With anime you can do just about anything; but the random magical lights going around them was too random for me. All in all poor story telling; and a riddled plot all sewn together with a craptacular narrative makes this a very bland film.

Rescue Dawn

Rescue Dawn

This should be one of the most celebrated films of 2007. Hands down an epic tale of one man’s struggle against the world. This film can only be compared to Tom Hank’s Cast Away; and trust me it would put up a fight. Christian Bale is an absolute terrific actor who has immersed himself in this role in it’s entirety. The triumphs, the constant for hope in such a perilous place.

Fast and Furious

I finally got around to watching the film. Read all the horrible reviews all reiterating the same thing, “it runs out of gas”. I couldn’t have put it any better! With the other films especially 2 Fast 2 Furious we had an awesome cast with a plausible riveting story & action. Fast and Furious was 95% CGI and 5% residual crap. They didn’t even race with real cars in this film. It was almost a 4th rate Speed Racer; although the Wachowski did some next generation work with the film. I’m not a big fan of the franchise anymore, it was emotionless; comicless; just a very bland experience. Any advent fan of racing films should move on. What made the previous films awesome were the soundtracks; but this one just didn’t deliver at all. Michelle Rodriguez was blazing hot in the film, although her screen time was short-lived. It looks like there going to make yet another sequel to the franchise, which i won’t be visiting unless they reboot & revamp it.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Quite an interesting film: it had chills and laughs but altogether didn’t fit like clockworks. I’m a big fan of the Harry Potter film franchise but the latest film in my opinion was very good and bad. The parts where they stayed true to the story were boring, and the new scenes they added were brilliant. Comedy Quidditch was by far my favourite scene in the film. With all the hormones racing in this film, the love potion does do some serious damage. The trailers and previews they aired spoiled the short film.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

This is the old 79′ film, which i decided to watch before the J.J. Abrams reboot. After watching the film i realized that i was supposed to watch 3 seasons of the Original Star Trek TV series before the feature film. I’m currently working security, so watching some movies at work. The film is very slow, it’s just haunting strings and slow-motion ancient CGI. The film was a little over 2 hours long. But for me the highlight of the film is when they found that Veger was actually Voyager a probe that was launched in Earth. For me the integration of Voyager connected me to the film, but everything before and after was a pretty big yawn. For the 79′ audience the CGI must have been impressive and they probably waited with baited breath between the transition of each scene.
